Jose Maria da Fonseca Jose de Sousa 2017

Portugal

Size: 750ml, Alentejo, Red Wine

Wine Advocate: 89

"The José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes Cellar was founded in 1878 and was purchased by José Maria da Fonseca in 1986, fulfilling an old dream of producing wine in Alentejo, in an estate full of prestige and history. The estate is located in Reguengos de Monsaraz, and it is here that a 2.000 year old Roman tradition is kept alive. The José de Sousa Cellar owns 114 ceramic amphorae in which an ancient fermentation method takes place. Dark red with some depth, the Jose de Sousa shows aromas of dates, chocolate, oak, some vanilla, fig, and spices. On the palate, the wine is fruity, velvety, with good tannins, some complexity and a good acidity." —winemaker

"The 2017 José de Sousa red, an Alentejo wine, is a blend of 58% Grand Noir, 22% Trincadeira and 20% Aragonês, aged for nine months in new and mostly French oak. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. A touch herbal, this goes on to prove its worth with its nuanced finish, fine structure and fresh feel. Very elegant, it is dry and precise, pointed and penetrating. It's not even a little bit fruity—this is made for food. This still adds some dried cherry flavors—and that touch of green. This could be better, more expressive, this time next year, and it should hold for another decade. It's a nice value." —Wine Advocate

"With the color of bright citrine, the bouquet is intense, dominated by citrus fruits and the floral aromas characteristic of the Loureiro grape. On the palate this wine is vibrant and balanced with a refreshing acidity that anticipates a good evolution. While this wine is ready to drink, it will also age well in its first few years." —winemaker

Adega Mae Viosinho 2019 Portugal
Size: 750ml, Estremadura-Lisboa, White Wine

"Viosinho imposes itself as one of the most extraordinary grape varieties of our terroir. Combines the fruity notes of its grape variety, with deep minerality (derived from our more calcareous soils), very lively acidity and a saline and deep finish. Present in our most noble white wines and, of course, also bottled as a single grape variety – pairing with all kinds of fish and seafood!" —winemaker

Wine Anthology Team Review-One of my new favorite white wines! Crisp acidity and sublime, fruit flavors roll into wonderful minerality and a completely satisfying finish. Like a Gruner Vetliner met an un-oaked Chardonnay. Simply delicious! A must try! Have this one with citrus grilled Tamboril. Cheers!

Casa Ferreirinha Papa Figos Tinto Size: 750ml

"A ruby-colored wine, with purple nuances. It has an intense and complex bouquet, with hints of black and red fruit and some tree fruits, combined with a heather and resin balsamic aroma, cocoa and chocolate. In the palate, it has a good volume, rounded tannins and well-integrated acidity. Hints of red fruits and light cocoa stand out in the flavor. The finish is long and quite elegant." —winemaker
