Westmalle Trappist Dubbel Ale

Size: 25.4oz

Beverage Testing Institute: 98, RateBeer: 96

"Westmalle Dubbel is a dark, reddish-brown Trappist beer with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. The creamy head has the fragrance of special malt and leaves an attractive lace pattern in the glass. The flavour is rich and complex, herby and fruity with a fresh-bitter finish. It is a balanced quality beer with a soft feel in the mouth and a long, dry aftertaste. The Dubbel contains 7% alcohol. Since 1856 the monks have also been brewing a dark Trappist beer along with their table beer. Since the recipe was modified in 1926, they have been brewing slightly heavier beer. This is the foundation of today's Dubbel." —brewer

"Hypnotic reddish mahogany color. Rich aromas of toasted banana-raisin muffin and spicy vanilla custard with a satiny, fruity-yet-dry medium-full body and a long, elegant finish with notes of caramelized nuts and dried fruits, peppery spice, and earth. A fantastic flavor ride and an archetype of the style." —Beverage Testing Institute

"Appearance: Dark, rich brown. Creamy tan head with good retention.

"Smell: Caramel aroma and fruity esters.

"Taste: Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Lovely sweet malts with caramel and cholocate flavours. Underlining fruit flavours of date and banana. Hits a dry point in the middle and become crisp for a moment. A slight coarseness, from the yeast, follows in the form of a moderately spicy characteristic that mixes with a prickly alcohol presence. Bitterness is thin, with faint floral flavours. Finishes slightly dry with some residual spiciness, sweetness and alcohol on the breath. Warming.

"Notes: This is just an overall amazing beer. One of the most famous of the Trappist beers, Westmalle Double can be found on tap at many Beglian establishments. 6.5% abv." —Todd Alström, BeerAdvocate

Westmalle Trappist Tripel Size: 25.4oz

25636
"Westmalle Tripel is a clear, golden yellow Trappist beer that undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle (9.5% alcohol). It is a complex beer with a fruity aroma and a nice nuanced hop scent. It is soft and creamy in the mouth, with a bitter touch carried by the fruity aroma. An exceptional beer, with a great deal of finesse and elegance. And with a splendid long aftertaste. The Westmalle Tripel is indeed called the 'mother of all tripels.' This type of beer was first brewed in Westmalle abbey in 1934 when the new brewing hall came into use. The current formula has stayed practically unchanged since 1956, thus more than 50 years." —brewer

Corsendonk Pater Dubbel Ale Size: 25.4oz

00590
"Brewed with all-natural ingredients, including Caramel, Pilsen and Munich barley malts, and Saaz, Kent and Hallertau hops. Beer authority Michael Jackson describes Corsendonk Pater Dubbel Ale as 'a strong, Burgundy-colored ale in the style of the classic Trappist brews of Belgium. Has a very distinctive bouquet: yeasty, fruity and slightly smoky. In palate, it has notes of port, raisins and black chocolate. Matures greatly with age, becoming softer, smoother and deeper in palate. Ideally, should be stored for at least a year, and could mature for at least five.'" —importer

Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel Ale Size: 25.4oz

30123
"Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadrupel combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time." —brewer

Chimay Grande Reserve (Blue) Size: 25.4oz

00480
"The Chimay Blue Cap, 'baptized' 'Grande Réserve' in 750 ml bottles is a dark Trappist beer with a powerful aroma, the complex flavour of which improves across the years. It was first brewed as a Christmas beer, explaining the presence of a 'vintage'. This authentic Belgian beer, whose tinge of fresh yeast is associated with a light rosy flowery touch, is particularly pleasant. Its aroma, perceived as one enjoys it, only accents the delightful sensations revealed by the odour, all revealing a light but agreeable caramelized note. It is served ideally at cellar temperature (50 to 54 °F)." —brewer
