"The striking, deep-purple color of this wine is reminiscent of a ripe aubergine. It has an intense, complex bouquet, blending hints of oak with blackcurrant, licorice, and chocolate. The nose reveals a seemingly endless range of aromas. On the palate, the breadth and expressivity of this wine is immediately impressive. The tannins are flavorful and its structure is poised, buoyed up by incredible freshness. To take an architectural metaphor, 2010 Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion is reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower. Its structure is immediately perceptible but, although it is obviously a substantial construction, it gives an impression of lightness and elegance. These contrasts make it easier to understand the challenge that faced the architects in both cases: to achieve perfect balance." —winemaker

"This is crazy. The nose is so unique with the iodine, stones and currant aromas with wet earth and mushroom. Aromas like this don't usually come out until 10 years or so in the bottle. Classic nose for this estate. Full-bodied, with an amazing palate of firm yet polished tannins and a solid palate. So dense and gorgeous. It is really stunning. Try in 2020." —James Suckling

"Deep garnet colored, the 2010 La Mission Haut-Brion has a commanding, profound nose of baked blackberries, boysenberries and warm cassis plus suggestions of candied violets, red roses, chocolate box, cedar chest and smoked meats with a waft of iron ore. Full-bodied, powerful and hedonic, the palate bursts with expressive black fruits and floral sparks, framed by exquisitely ripe, grainy tannins and beautiful freshness, finishing with epic length. A real head-turner, this beauty is already very impressive, but for that full WOW experience I would give it another 3-5 years in bottle to blossom." —Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

"A strong candidate for a perfect score in about 15 years, the 2010 La Mission Haut-Brion could well turn out to be a modern-day version of their 1955. Sadly (or maybe fortunately) for me, I’m not old enough to have tasted the 1955 in 1958 from bottle, but this wine could also be an update on the more modern 2000 which, of course, I know well and actually own. This full-bodied, colossal giant of a wine is one of the goliaths of the vintage. It may well have the highest level of natural alcohol for any wine from the Left Bank of Bordeaux (15.1%) and has the definite potential to be a 50- to 75-year wine. Dense purple, it offers up notes of lead pencil shavings, charcoal embers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur along with massive concentration, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel and a monumental finish that goes well past a minute, which I think might be a record for a young Bordeaux. Keep in mind that the 2009, which I gave three digits, came in at 14.7%, but the pH of the 2010 is lower, giving the wine a freshness and precision that is remarkable. The final blend was 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, and – unlike the Chapelle de la Mission, which has 26% Cabernet Franc – there’s only 1% Cabernet Franc in the 2010 La Mission Haut-Brion. This is a wine for those of you with youth on your side as well as patience. It will need a good decade of cellaring. An amazing wine. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2075+." —Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

"Deep, saturated ruby-red. Sweet, brooding aromas of cassis, coffee, minerals and licorice. Superconcentrated, voluptuous and seamless, with outstanding density of fruit and noteworthy precision to the compellingly sweet dark berry and mineral flavors. The broad, ripely tannic finish features extraordinary length and lingering violet and flint flavors. The best young La Mission I remember tasting at a similar stage of development. This is one of my three or four top wines of the vintage." —Ian D'Agata, Vinous

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Blended Scotch Whisky Size: 750ml

41050
"Johnnie Walker Blue Label was created by the Master Distiller, Jim Beveridge, who continues the tradition of unparalleled commitment to creating the world's greatest whiskies. With access to the most valuable and precious whisky stocks, he creates this rare blend using only the most exceptional of young and old whiskies. Johnnie Walker Blue Label sets the standard, with layers and layers of flavor from hand-selected, rare casks from across the distilling regions of Scotland. Its flavors are influenced by the smoke of the west and the rich, sweet whiskies of the east." —producer

Johnnie Walker King George V Blended Scotch Whisky Size: 750ml

13410
"King George V was created to celebrate the Royal Warrant given to the Walker family in 1934 to mark their exceptional quality. This blend includes Port Ellen, a highly prized malt whose distillery no longer exists. King George V has more restraint and sophistication than the Blue Label. The smoke is supplied from the unique, closed distillery of Port Ellen and is powerful, slow and resonant. It's a slower whisky to evolve but has enormous depth." —producer

Penfolds Bin 620 Cabernet Shiraz 2008 Australia
Size: 750ml, Southern, Limestone Coast, Red Wine

23224
"Deep and generous red with a dark core. This wine instantly proclaims Penfolds...and then, naturally Coonawarra! An aromatic color chart reveals red, rather than blue or black fruits. Also red licorice, black olive. Hovering above — wafts of tomato, quince, and cabernet paste meshed with cinnamon and nutmeg yeast-bun spices. Swirling and time in glass reveal fresh, bright beetroot and star-anise/soy Asian artefact. Exotic, with barely-discernible oak (French?) at least offering one recognizable sensory hook. Although flavors of cola, sarsaparilla and white chocolate are immediately apparent, it is the structure and textural weave that impact. At once, it is tight, focused, and poised. A multi-dimensional continuum, difficult to de-construct." —winemaker
