"The HJW Vineyard is where it all began. On a bench of land seven hundred feet above Seneca Lake, Hermann planted the estate's first Riesling vines in 1977. The site's cooler mesoclimate shows through with racy acidity underpinned by a dense mineral backbone." —winemaker

#45 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2022

"This has a breathtaking array of stone-fruit, mandarin-orange and honeysuckle aromas, but that’s just the beginning of this exceptionally elegant dry riesling. The most exciting things about it creeps up on you, the power and concentration building and building through the very long, delicate finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold." —James Suckling

"The 2020 Riesling HJW Vineyard comes in with six grams of residual sugar and 12.5% alcohol. This was sourced from HJW vines planted in 1977. This takes the Flower Day Riesling, which is sourced from the younger 2009 vines at HJW, and adds concentration, plus a more unctuous texture while retaining a fairly crisp demeanor relative to what I'm seeing in this group of 2020s. The mouthfeel suggests depth and there are hints of complexity to come. This might be the most nuanced of Wiemer's wines in this report. Plus, some six hours later, it did a better job of pulling in its parts and showing off its structure. It began to look a bit more like the 2019 and also like one of the nicest winners for Wiemer in 2020, with an excellent chance of improving over the next several years. It will not even be released until the summer of 2022." —Wine Advocate

"Delicious from the start, with a burst of meringue, lemon gelée and Jonagold apple flavors backed by jasmine and honeysuckle accents through the long, pure finish. Drink now through 2032. 800 cases made." —Wine Spectator

"A wine that smiles and makes you smile! It is stylistically close to Pouilly-Fuissé, with its golden hue, its greenish reflection and its refreshing taste. The aromas are reminiscent of the ripe Chardonnay grape, with subtle notes of musk. A pleasant roundness coats the palate." —winemaker

"Sharing the same provenance as our legendary Vintage Ports, our 2018 LBV is made using grapes from our best-performing plots at Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira. Aged in oak vats for up to six years before being bottled, the 2018 has exuberant aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and a touch of mint." —winemaker

"Deep ruby red. Rich, long-lingering aromas are redolent of violets and wild red berry fruit. Il Grigio is a full-bodied wine, lean and firm, with succulent tannins and a tangy acidity." —winemaker

"Pale yellow color with hints of green. You get on the nose a touch of oak, lots of finesse and minerality with white flowers, lemon and apple scents. On the mouth, the wine is fresh, round and fruity with aromas of melon, kiwi, peaches and apricot and a nice minerality. Overall, the wine is nicely balanced and fresh with a great length." —winemaker
