"Maravedíes are an ancient form of currency once used in Castilla and 30,000 Maravedíes was the amount that Don Alvaro de Luna paid a local monastery, centuries ago, for the land where Bodega Marañones is now located. It is a fitting name for this “village” wine made from three terroirs that Fernando farms: Marañones, Andrinoso and Dehesa. 30,000 Maravedíes is made primarily from Garnacha with about 10% Morate in the final blend." —importer |

"A beautiful wine that shows bright blueberries, tea leaves, lemons, tangerines, pink guava, rosemary and thyme. Very refined and suave on the palate, which is medium in body, but deep in flavors. Wonderfully tangy and vivacious throughout. Such transparency and poise. Drink now." —James Suckling "Brilliant red. Spice-accented raspberry, cherry and five-spice powder scents show excellent clarity and vibrant, mineral lift. Silky and sharply detailed on the palate, offering juicy red fruit, black tea and floral pastille flavors that slowly deepen as the wine opens up. Fine-grained tannins frame the long, energetic finish, which leaves suave floral and Asian spice notes behind. Morate is an ancient, virtually extinct local variety that yields large berries. All whole clusters; fermentation, malo and eight months of aging in French oak vats and barrels of varying size." —Vinous |
