Orin Swift Cellars is the brainchild of winemaker and creative force Dave Phinney, who first encountered wine while studying in Florence and never looked back. Founded in 1998 with little more than two tons of zinfandel and a determination to learn, the brand quickly developed a reputation for bold, unapologetic blends and striking label design. Phinney’s early breakthrough came with The Prisoner, a game-changing red blend that set the tone for Orin Swift’s unconventional, boundary-pushing approach. Over the years, the portfolio has expanded with wines like Papillon, Abstract, and Machete—each with a distinct personality, yet all unmistakably Orin Swift.

Now based in a historic bank building in downtown St. Helena, Orin Swift’s tasting room is designed to reflect the brand’s ethos: raw, intentional, and immersive. The newly expanded space offers a range of tasting experiences, from relaxed to highly curated, including the exclusive Vault for deep dives into the winemaking process. More than just a winery, Orin Swift is a reflection of Phinney’s relentless drive to create wines that defy expectations—whether through unexpected blends, evocative storytelling, or the sheer quality in every bottle.
