"Casa Américo Alfrocheiro 2018 wine is a monovarietal wine, 100% from the Alfrocheiro variety, one of the main grape varieties in the Dão region, Portugal. This variety produces wines rich in color, with firm but delicate and structuring tannins. Coming from the vineyards of Quinta do Paço, with about 25 years, located in the sub-region of Serra da Estrela, Dão region. This Casa Américo Alfrocheiro wine shows a ruby color with aromas of black plum, peat and hints of pine. In the mouth it is dense, with firm but delicate tannins." —winemaker

Wine Anthology Team Review-One of the hidden gems from this past year for me. An un-oaked red from Portugal that really allows the grape to show itself off. Savory with compote fruit flavors, this is a red that can handle a slight chill before drinking. Also an excellent food wine, enjoy this with freshly grilled red snapper and peppers. Cheers!

"This luscious dessert wine is deep amber to tawny in colour with olive green hues. The wine exhibits classic perfumed aromas of the Muscat grape – lifted florals of rose petal, ginger spice and orange peel, with butterscotch and fruitcake. The palate is soft, silken and luscious in texture, quite viscous and concentrated, then richly flavoured showing a melange of raisined fruit, wood aged characters, fruitcake and spices, finishing with delicate and integrated spirit. "Containing a blend of rums from 6 to 25 years old, with an extra ageing stage in French oak barrels that previously held cognac. Mahogany color with intense red hints of long barrel ageing at the rim and long, slow legs. A very open nose with a wealth of aromas that seem to evolve each time you nose the glass; a great balance of mature toasted oak, burnt caramel, dry-roasted nuts, marzipan and orange peel; a delicate floral note of honeysuckle in the background. A wonderfully complex and satisfying balance of sweetness, fruit, spice, and spirit; long, smooth and sweet with a weight of dark cherry chocolate and flavours of intense dried fruits like sultana, date and prune; sweet oak spices of clove, vanilla and cinnamon, and lighter notes of dried mango and raspberry, with a subtle hint of ginger to finish. A perfectly balanced combination of sweetness, spice, fruit and spirit, a connoisseur's delight and the ultimate expression of the Master Blender's art." —producer

"Dense inky core fading to a magenta rim. A seductive Croft nose, ripe and voluptuous but with the depth and density characteristic of the 2017 vintage. As usual, plump, juicy blackcurrant, black cherry and raspberry form the backdrop. However, the nose is soon drawn into a vortex of heady, complex aroma in which resiny scents of eucalyptus and gumcistus blend with pungent notes of sage and mint, fresh hints of grapefruit and a mellow spiciness. On the palate, firm, sinewy tannins are wrapped in a thick envelope of dense, velvety texture. As is often the case, this is one of the most exotic and beguiling wines of the vintage. However, it is also a weighty wine, dense and deeply coloured, with the concentration and stamina to ensure a long life in bottle. One of the finest Croft Vintages of recent years." —winemaker
