"The nose opens on an elegant combination of red and black fruit aromas, followed by airing by elegant spice and roasted coffee-bean notes. The palate has ripe red and black fruit flavors emerge on the attack, followed on the midpalate by powerful black fruit mingled with delicate spice and roasted coffee-bean notes. The fruit flavors found on the attack return, underpinned by beautifully refined tannins which give length and elegance to the finish." —winemaker |

"The 2020 Gran Reserva Escudo Rojo is a mixture of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Carménère, 11% Syrah, 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot from the Central Valley, aged for 12 months in 25% new barrels. Purple in color. The nose offers ripe fruit with hints of blackberry, herbs, mint and black currant. A well-made wine, it’s potent in the mouth with firm tannins, a little freshness and a finish that is a reprise of the nose." —Vinous "Spicy with dark plums, blackberries and dried Mediterranean spices. This is a full-bodied red, framed by lots of nicely chewy tannins on the palate. Tight and angular. Cabernet sauvignon, carmenere, syrah, cabernet franc and petit verdot. Drink in 2024. Sustainable." —James Suckling |
