"A garnet-coloured, almost opaque wine, with aromas reminiscent of dark fruit, spices and smoke, and hints of jam due to the lengthy period of maturation. Dense, full on the palate, and well structured. Tannins are present, but are soft and well integrated. A finish that is extremely pleasant, long-lasting and persistent." —winemaker Blend: 70% Castelão, 10% Touriga Nacional, 10% Syrah, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon |

"The 2020 Reserva "Dona Ermelinda" is 70% Castelão with equal parts of Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional comprising the rest. It was aged for 12 months in an equal mixture of new French and American oak and comes in at 14.7% alcohol. At this point in the lineup, we get the nod to the signature grape of the region, the Castelão. It provides those bold strawberry flavors, but cut by its mates in the blend, it also seems balanced and fresh. It has good structure, too, to go with the ripe fruit. It's more or less ready now, but it can hold throughout the decade, maybe more." —Wine Advocate |
