"Created by Ramon Castaño Santa and his 3 sons, Bodegas Castaño is not nearly as old as the vines it owns. Today, Daniel Castaño, one of Ramon's sons, runs the winery with the help of other members of the family. Solanera is a custom cuvee for Eric Solomon Selections. Dark cherry-red color. Ripe fruit, pleasant wooden notes. Complex nose, spiced and elegant. On the palate is rich, balanced, with elegant sweet round tannins." —importer Blend: 70% Monastrell, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Garnacha |

"Beautiful, with lots of cassis, blackberry, graphite, camphor, and acacia flower notes on the nose, the 2017 Vinas Viejas hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, elegant texture, ripe tannins, and a gorgeous finish. A blend of 65% Monastrell, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Garnacha, brought up in 75% new French oak, it's the real deal and will keep for 7-8 years, probably longer." —Jeb Dunnuck |
