"Beautiful purple color with fresh notes of raspberry, blackberry and spices. On the palate, this wine shows round and velvety tannins, good concentration, and a long finish." —winemaker |
Critical Acclaim | |||
"This red bursts with freshness, offering boysenberry, red currant and brambly fruit notes, detailed with pepper, graphite and wild herb elements. Accents of black tea, black olive and violet dovetail on the moderately tannic finish. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Francesa. Drink now through 2026. 2,000 cases made, 250 cases imported." —Wine Spectator "The 2017 Tinto Quinta da Manoella is mostly a 60/25 blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, with Tinta Roriz and Tinta Francisca filling out the blend. It was aged for 16 months in used French oak and comes in at 14% alcohol. This was a tank sample when seen in Portugal last June. It is now in the USA. This seems a bit richer in fruit intensity than the 2016 also reviewed this issue, but mostly it is younger and a little less developed. Once past that burst of concentrated fruit, this maintains the style of the brand—elegant, with fairly ripe tannins. It is not quite as ready to drink as the 2016, though. It really needs a year in the cellar. For the moment, this seems to be just a little better. I would expect that conclusion to be even clearer around 2022 as both wines develop. This is a nice value." —Wine Advocate |
