"Discreet nose a first, but develops very complex spicy mineral aromas with only hints of citrus fruit. After a long time in the glass, the wine will show its noble limestone origin. Clearly less extravagant but more profound, the palate hides superbly the sweetness and offers a salivating acidity and tannic structure. With no doubt this wine will age very gracefully. Like many Gewurztraminer in 2012, the sweetness is well hidden in the structure of the wine." —winemaker
"Pale straw. Pristine aromas of canned pineapple, ripe pear, apple juice and white flowers. Silky and precise in the mouth, with complex, deep tropical fruit and flint framed by harmonious acidity. Finishes with a compelling floral perfume. The older Muschelkalk limestone soils of the Clos Windsbuhl really deliver a more feminine, graceful style of Gewürztraminer. This will match perfectly with a lightly curried dish. Drinking window: 2017 - 2028." —Ian D'Agata, Vinous

"The cooler terroir of the Clos let the 2012 Gewürztraminer Clos Windsbuhl ripen slowly up to extra ripeness with a small percentage of noble rot whereas the acidity remained stable. The golden-colored wine opens with a deep and intense, very mineral but also aromatic bouquet of lemon zests, ripe peaches and limestone flavors. Full-bodied, elegant and powerful, this rich, intense, and persistently mineral and well structured wine develops a great complexity and length, whereas the residual sweetness of 50 grams is well integrated. Also, the tannic structure gives this excellent Gewurz from the famous Clos an excellent aging potential." —Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

"Intensely perfumed, this rich wine has also kept a fresher side. It's very fruity at this stage, with mango and lychee as well as pear and quince. That youthful character will deepen and mature into something more complex, bringing out the rich texture. Drink from 2018. Cellar Selection." —Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast Magazine
